Providing opportunities, support and mentoring to artists & creators
PIA have teamed up with the Worcestershire LitFest to create an illustration Exhibition to sit alongside the book shop and live performances, to show off the illustrative talents of our artists to publishers and writers.
Illustrations really make a writers work step off the page and capture the imagination of the reader more than spoken words alone.
Come and see the amazing works by some leading and up and coming private illustrators. Colin Clark, Bic Beaumont, Jadu Sheridan, James Williams and Richard Delingpole.
Richard Delingpole
Richard Delingpole is a Worcester born artist, illustrator and graphic designer. After a Foundation at Bournville School of Art and a Fine Art degree at Cheltenham Art College he completed an MA in Fine Art at the University of Ulster, Belfast.
After a year living in Bristol he moved to London. There he became a graphic designer, working in advertising and marketing.
He has re-invented the cigarette card for the 21st century, taking the front facing part of each painting and adding a description to the back of each card. These have proved very popular as a collectible and ever-expanding series of inexpensive prints.
Moving his young family back to Worcester in 2001, he picked up an interest in the history of his birthplace. After attending a re-enactment of the 1651 battle of Worcester he took up the hobby of re-enactment and has enjoyed various roles, culminating in his current impression of a French soldier of WW1 and also WW2.
This hobby has inspired his current body of work, the “Front to Back” series. These watercolours show soldiers and auxiliary figures throughout history, using friends from the re-enactment world as models. Each painting shows, in great detail, both front and back of the individual, as so much of what makes a soldier’s battledress interesting is hanging from his back.
